WEMA T484 - Optical tachometer for easy calibration of marine tachometers
Incorrect tachometer readings are one of the most common problems when installing marine
instruments. Aftermarket tachometers in particular often require calibration, as the signal may come
from the alternator W terminal or an inductive sensor, where the number of pulses per engine
revolution is not always known.
Differences in alternators, pulleys and pulse sensors mean that a tachometer rarely displays the
correct engine speed immediately after installation. Without a reference instrument, calibration often
becomes a time-consuming process of trying different settings and estimating the correct value. This
frequently leads to frustration, inaccurate readings and numerous support enquiries to dealers and
technical support teams.
The WEMA T484 lets you quickly measure the actual engine speed and use it as a reference when
adjusting the tachometer. This handheld optical tachometer takes non-contact measurements by
detecting reflective tape placed on the flywheel or another rotating engine component.
This compact, affordable instrument can help avoid much of the time-consuming troubleshooting
often associated with tachometer installation and calibration.
